Words of Wisdom

Today I offer no ‘words of wisdom’ —  I simply request you begin to use your own!!

Our choice of words can either empower us or make us a smaller version of ourselves.  YOUR words shape how YOU feel – so choose them wisely!

The same is true with thoughts. Thoughts are simply words that haven’t been spoken yet, so watch your thoughts and your words: “Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habit. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.” Lao Tzu

Your life can be shaped by your Word and your Thought. They change how you feel and the difference in your life can truly come down to the words you use.

Your mind doesn’t understand Negatives

Firstly, understand your Mind does not understand negative comments or instructions. It’s important to show what I mean. Here is a quick exercise…

  1. Please spend a few moments thinking about the Statue of Liberty
  2. Now, stop thinking about the Statue of Liberty!   Don’t think about the Statue of Liberty anymore.

Did you manage to stop thinking about it? My guess is not!

So let’s proceed to the second part of the exercise.

  1. Please think about the Statue of Liberty
  2. Now, think about The White House, and think about President Obama making an important speech in the Rose Garden. Maybe even Michelle is stood behind him.

What happened this time? Were you able to stop thinking about the Statue of Liberty, and instead focus on the White House and President Obama? Did your emotions also slightly shift as well as your thoughts? This shows that your Mind will not focus on negative instructions only positive ones.

To change your emotions and your thoughts, you need to focus on positive words and positive thoughts, not remove negative ones from your mind. It’s not easy at first, but with practice is gets easier. So choose Words and Fill your mind with positive words and thoughts. Even write it down if it helps!

Your mind ALWAYS provides an Answer

When something negative happens we often find ourselves asking “why does this always happen to me?”

Our Minds provide an answer, even if it’s the wrong one!  It says things like ‘because it just does’ or ‘because you’re stupid or dumb’ or ‘you’re an Idiot’ – don’t let your Mind answer the wrong question. Why not consciously ask ‘what’s the learning from this’.  Your mind will look for an answer to the question you ask either way, so better to ask a better question. It’s not easy, of course, it takes time, but just like you can train your muscles, you can train your mind.

Use words and thoughts that EMPOWER you.

To experience Joy, Happiness, Love and Gratitude truly become conscious of your Words and Thoughts.  Do not say or think ‘I hate’ or ‘this will never happen’ say or think “I am currently annoyed’ or ‘this hasn’t happened yet’ – these small changes in your Vocabulary can change your life.  If you’re going through a problem don’t say “This has ruined my Life” or “You’ve destroyed my life”–  these words become self-fulfilling. You can be honest with yourself, you can say ‘this is not something I’d have asked for and presents a challenge’ but choose your vocabulary carefully. Words and Thoughts become things. Choose good ones.

Avoid the Wall

The best analogy I’ve heard about Focusing your Thoughts is about race car drivers!!  If a driver skids out of control and is heading towards a wall, the natural inclination is to look AT the wall in an attempt to avoid it, but if your focus on what you fear that is where you end up. Professional racers are taught to turn their focus AWAY from the wall and towards the open track.  If they focus their vision and thoughts on that wall they will stir into it, because your Mind makes your actions unconsciously head towards whatever it is you focus on. Avoid the WALL by using Words and Thoughts that focus away from the wall.

Focusing your mind and thoughts on a bad relationship or dead end job, is just the same as focusing on not hitting the wall.

Do not say I hate my job, say I would like my job to be fulfilling. It just vibrates better! Focus on what you would love to be doing, concentrate your energy on it, instead of repeating over and over what you don’t like. When a negative thought comes into your head, thank it for showing up and dismiss it. The more you do this, the more positive thinking will become natural

Words of Wisdom – Your Words!

You are the source of your emotions, you can change or create them, you don’t need an excuse to feel good, just decide to! Lower your negative emotional energy by using softer language and expand your emotional vocabulary, choose your words carefully so the words you select produce the emotional state you desire (and deserve)!

There are many steps on the journey to finding your Essence and being mindful of your words and thoughts is one step along this process. Consistently give constructive and encouraging messages to your Mind.

 Namaste x
